Mindfulness with Horses

Meet horses in the present moment and they will invite you to feel at one with nature

What is Mindfulness?

The goal of mindfulness is not to be positive or to achieve an absence of thoughts. Instead, it is to observe what sensations, emotions, and thoughts are present—not what you wish was present, but what is truthfully there. Observe with compassion and non-judgement, as if you were a third party peering into the mind of a beloved child. Attentively observe, then gently guide the mind back to the sensations of the present moment.

Why Mindfulness with Horses?

A horse’s brain has a far less developed pre-frontal cortex than a human’s. This is the area of the brain responsible for executive functions, including planning for the future and worrying about the past. Therefore, being fully present comes naturally to horses. Practising mindfulness alongside these large, peaceful animals encourages us to feel deeply present and connected to our surroundings.

What can you expect during Mindfulness with Horses?

The goal of our time together is to increase your awareness of the subtleties of your senses. Most sessions will include an active walking meditation guided by horses' body language.

This practice of observing and responding to horses' body language allows us to create a meaningful connection with them regardless of the physical distance between us.

How often do you think horses physically touch each other?

The answer is quite infrequently. Horses can be deeply connected to each other while physically standing very far apart. This is possible through instinctual observation of body language and careful consideration of each member’s role in the herd.

During your experience, you will learn a pattern of interacting with horses that will encourage you to feel grounded and deeply connected.

Rest assured, your experience is designed with your safety and comfort in mind. If you're feeling apprehensive, or are struggling to follow safety instructions, we can adjust the mindfulness experience to take place in nature with a clear view of one of the horses.
